This luminous artwork, Angels Garlanding the Infant Jesus, is by the Scottish artist and designer Ann MacBeth (1875–1948). Here we see two adoring angels kneeling before the Christ Child, laying garlands of flowers around Him, while a great angel spreads its wings protectively over the holy scene. The tender offering of blossoms symbolizes purity, worship, and the heavenly joy surrounding the newborn Savior.

MacBeth’s use of vivid color, intricate linework, and symbolic imagery reflects her background in the Arts and Crafts movement. The style evokes both reverence and wonder, drawing the viewer into the mystery of the Incarnation. Notice how the angels’ garments shimmer with color and pattern, and how the daisy garlands frame the Holy Child like a crown of innocence.

Ann MacBeth was an influential teacher at the Glasgow School of Art, known for her devotion to religious themes and her skill in embroidery, painting, and illustration. This piece highlights her unique ability to merge beauty with devotion.

Please note: The image is slightly smaller than the paper, leaving a white border (about 1.3" on 8.5x11" prints). This finishing detail allows the artwork to be beautifully displayed with or without a mat when framed. - Sue Kouma Johnson, text and image restoration.
